In 2006, our primary goal was clear: to help Black women live fuller lives. The chosen destination was Italy. Lives were changed in Italy, and it is still happening.

 

Bella Italia, then BlackGirlTravel, became a buzz phrase that has inspired an entirely new niche market, now known as "Black woman travel groups." We are the undisputed OGs, and to this day no one does Italy for Black women like we do.

Ms. Weaver creates itineraries based on 20 years of experience and thirteen years of living in five regions of Italy. Her passion and fun-loving, unique perspective of Italy and Italian culture make the journeys feel like visiting your second home. "Every time I leave," she says, "I long for it again, like a lover."

The smaller villages are the beating heart of Italy: wander the tiny streets, indulge in distinct regional dishes, and be awed by postcard-perfect landscapes.

 

Oh, and don't forget the wine. Every region has its own,  with enoteche (wine bars).

 

Culture vultures, step back in history on unchanged cobblestone streets. For foodies and wine connoisseurs, be prepared to eat and drink your way through Italy and have clinking luggage for the trip home.

It's no accident that Oprah Winfrey, Beyoncé and Jay-Z, Ciara and Russell Wilson, Rihanna, and Magic Johnson, among others, return here year after year. They come for the same thing we do: a slow-paced, relaxing getaway that feels like stepping back in time, when life was simpler.

Florence, with its distinguished Florentine aristocratic Renaissance lineage, is only the beginning. Visit Bari, capital of the Puglia region, along with Alberobello and Polignano a Mare, in the "heel" of the Italian boot-shaped peninsula (lo stivale), known for their friendly people and down-home spirit.  The men and the nonne (grandparents) have a way of making you feel admired and like family, no matter your age.
